Former Blue Devil Nate Freiman singles in first MLB at bat

After getting drafted in the 28th round of the 2008 MLB Draft, former Blue Devil Nate Freiman came back to Duke for his senior season. He then graduated as the school's all-time home run leader and was rewarded with an eighth-round selection in the 2009 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres.

The 6-foot-8 first baseman finally got a first chance at the big show, starting for the Oakland A's at first base Wednesday. And in his first career at bat, he hit an RBI single up the middle.

Here's a low-quality video of the single and reaction:

Freiman led Duke in batting averaging in three seasons from 2007-2009 and hit 20 home runs in his senior season in 2009, the most since 1994. He's second in Blue Devil history in career batting average at .356 and first in home runs at 43.

Freiman was among a few Jewish former Blue Devils who played for Team Israel in an attempt to qualify for this year's World Baseball Classic. They did not qualify.
