Northwestern intends to interview Duke assistant Chris Collins next week

The buzz continues to grow that Duke associate head coach Chris Collins could very well become the next head basketball coach at Northwestern.

Northwestern fired former Wildcat head coach Bill Carmody over the weekend.

According to an article Wed. by Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune, Collins—a native of Northbrook, Illinois—is seen as "an ideal fit" as the Wildcat head coach given his roots in the area.

Per the article, Northwestern intends to interview the Collins next week.

“[Collins] has enormous responsibilities," ESPN college basketball analyst—and former Tennessee head coach—Bruce Pearl said in the Chicago Tribune article. "When he speaks, he speaks for Mike (Krzyzewski) and Mike trusts him… And you’re talking about someone who is experienced beyond his years because of growing up with his dad (Doug). Chris Collins has a chance to be that next great coach, the next Brad Stevens (Butler).”

Collins was in consideration for the Illinois head coaching position last summer.

Collins, a former Duke player, has been on the Blue Devil coaching staff since 2000.
