Quick Hits from Lunch with Cut

Head coach David Cutcliffe held his weekly press conference today. Here are some highlights from his 30-minute Q&A.

Duke will be celebrating cancer awareness this weekend and will feature pink accessories on the field at Wallace Wade.

NFL players have been sporting pink gloves, towels, cleats, headsets, and other ornaments in honor of cancer awareness month.

Coach Cutcliffe said that the team will try to "hold out" Josh Snead for this season.

After an impressive freshman season, Josh Snead sustained a leg injury in the final weeks of camp this summer. This injury has prevented him from playing any snaps this season although he has been active for the Blue Devils' last two contests. With Desmond Scott, Juwan Thompson, and Jay Hollingsworth above a rusty Snead on the depth chart, Duke would like to give Snead a chance to fully recover and regain the explosiveness he showed off last season. If injuries force Scott, Thompson, and Hollingsworth to miss time, Snead likely will have his number called, but until then, don't expect to Snead on the field this year.

Brian Moore's return was a welcome one for the offensive line.

The Blue Devils' most reliable returning offensive lineman made his first appearance of the season taking his starting spot back from the hobbled Dave Harding. Quarterback Sean Renfree described Moore's performance as stellar and stressed the importance of Moore's leadership and ability to make calls before the snap. Moore's return contributed to the team's third best rushing performance of the season, gaining 148 yards on 44 carries led by Desmond Scott and Juwan Thompson.

Cutcliffe praised the job that Anthony Boone has done this year, especially Saturday.

Thanks to an injury to Renfree Saturday, Boone played more snaps than usual. Boone rushed for two touchdowns and completed one of his two passing attempts. Cutcliffe acknowledged that Boone may have made an incorrect read on a couple of runs, but he ran the offense well enough during his time on the field.
