Williams scores 15 as USA takes U19 gold medal

Elizabeth Williams, Stefanie Dolson and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis each scored 15 points as the United States smoked Spain in the FIBA U19 World Championship gold medal game on Sunday night, winning 69-46 in Puerto Montt, Chile.

The United States was dominant from the outset, running out to a 25-12 lead in the first quarter. The lead stretched to 37-22 by halftime, and 56-36 by the beginning of the final period. The Americans held Spain to just 28.8-percent shooting on the night.

For Williams, a Duke incoming freshman, the point total matched her highest of the tournament, and came on 6-of-8 shooting. The 6-foot-3 post player averaged 8.9 points—on 52.3 percent shooting—and 5.0 rebounds per game in the competition. This gold medal is Williams' third in international competition.

Americans Ariel Messengale, who had a team-record 39 assists in the nine games, and Breanna Stewart, who averaged a team-high 11.2 points per game, were named to the five-player All-FIBA U19 World Championship team.
