Helfet selected for preseason John Mackey Award watch list

Blue Devil senior tight end Cooper Helfet has been selected for the 2011 preseason John Mackey Award watch list. The award is given annually by the Nassau County Sports Commission to the most outstanding tight end in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound honorable mention all-ACC tight end racked up 380 yards and two touchdowns on 34 catches last season, good for most receiving yards in the conference at his position. He is one of 33 players on the list, joined by ACC competitors Allen Dwayne (Clemson), George Bryan (N.C. State), Chris Pantale (Boston College) and Colter Phillips (Virginia).

The award will be announced on December 8, 2011, at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
