Volleyball Earns More Recognition

Tuesday, head coach Jolene Nagel and four Blue Devils received yet more accolades from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Junior setter Kellie Catanach, who was earlier named ACC Volleyball Player of the Year, along with Becci Burling, Christiana Gray and Amanda Robertson--all four All-ACC selections--were named to the AVCA All-East Region Team.

Nagel joined the four in receiving honors, earning the title of East Region Coach of the Year on top of her ACC Coach of the Year award earlier this month.

Duke (26-6, 16-4 in the ACC) finished the season as the winners of the ACC Championship and won two consecutive matches at Cameron Indoor Stadium against High Point 3-0 and Ohio 3-2 in the first two rounds of the NCAA Volleyball Championship. With the five-set win over the Bobcats, the No. 12-seeded Blue Devils advanced to the Sweet 16 and face Missouri--who upset fifth-seeded Northern Iowa in the first round--tonight at Penn State's Rec Hall.

This is the third time in Duke history that the team has advanced to the Sweet 16, and if the Blue Devils win tonight, they will make their second appearance in the Elite Eight against the winner of Penn State and Oklahoma.
