Volleyball Advances To Elite Eight

No. 12-seeded Duke overcame Missouri 3-1 Friday night at Penn State's Rec Hall in the NCAA Volleyball Championship's Sweet 16 to move on to the Elite Eight against No. 4-seeded Penn State this evening at 6:30.

The Blue Devils (27-6) take on the Nittany Lions (29-5) at Penn State's home court in a game that will be televised on ESPNU. This marks only the second time in school history that Duke has advanced to the Elite Eight and is only the third ACC team to ever advance to the Elite Eight.

The Blue Devil's defense has been instrumental in its successes so far, winning 3-0 against High Point, 3-2 against Ohio and 3-1 against Missouri--who topped No. 5-seeded Northern Iowa in the first round of the tournament. Duke has held its three opponents to .160 hitting percentages so far and are looking to continue doing so against perennial powerhouse Penn State.

The winner of the match-up will move on to Kansas City, Mo. for the tournament's Final Four Friday to face the winner of No. 16-seeded Purdue and No. 9-seeded Texas.
