Local and national speakers at Duke Nov. 9

David Brooks, New York Times columnist and PBS Newshour commentator, will deliver the Terry Sanford Distinguished Lecture at at 5:30 p.m. in Sanford's Fleishman Commons.

His talk, "Politics and Culture in the Age of Obama," will discuss how Obama administration has shaped America's political and social discourse, as well as how politicians in D.C. can usher in a post partisan era, according to a Duke news release.

A more local figure will also be at Duke that Tuesday.

Dean Sam Wells will speak with Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez at 12:15 p.m. in the Duke Chapel.

As part of Duke Chapel's 2010 Dean's Dialogues series "Listening to the Heart of Durham," Wells and Lopez will discuss topics surrounding the common good and the Duke-Durham relationship, according to another Duke news release.

The event is also free and open to the public, and those in attendance will even have a chance to ask general questions.
