Helfet Wins ACC Player of the Week

One week after winning the ACC's offensive lineman of the week, tight end Cooper Helfet nabbed the conference's player of the week honors, the Duke sports information office announced today.

Helfet—a former Johns Hopkins lacrosse player turned Duke tight end—turned in another tremendous performance Saturday, catching seven passes for a career-high 122 yards and one touchdown. He also was responsible for two first downs on the Blue Devils' game-winning 91-yard touchdown drive, with one 18-yard grab coming on 3rd-and-6 at the Duke 13-yard line and the other on a first down at the Virginia 47.

His 30-yard touchdown came on the Duke's first offensive drive. And, in an impressive feat for a tight end, he averaged 17.4 yards per catch in the game.

Helfet, who struggled a bit at the beginning of the year, has burgeoned into an offensive star for the Blue Devils. For more about him, be sure to check out Tom Gieryn's profile on the two-sport athlete.
