Helfet, Snyderwine Pick Up Honors

Generic Script

Is the momentum turning for Duke Football?

Two days after upsetting Navy 34-31 in Annapolis, two Blue Devils picked up honors Monday as ACC players of the week at their respective positions. Tight end Cooper Helfet was named the league's top offensive lineman, and kicker Will Snyderwine was named the best specialist.

Helfet hauled in a team-best seven catches for a team-high 69 yards Saturday to take the honor. Perhaps most important, he picked up an onside kick with 2:34 left in the fourth quarter to slow Navy's momentum. The recovery allowed Duke to eat some time off the clock, keeping a Midshipmen offense that was really rolling off the field. (By the way: Raise your hand if you knew that tight ends were eligible for this award.)

Snyderwine kicked two field goals and converted four extra points Saturday against Navy. Benefiting from a brisk wind, he also kicked three of his seven kickoffs for touchbacks. His 40-yard field goal with 8:34 left in the game would prove to be the crucial three point margin Duke needed for the win.
