Redick, Boozer, Duhon Navigate Free Agency

Make no doubt about it -- perennial All-Stars Lebron James, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade are the biggest prizes for NBA teams across the country this summer. However, any Blue Devil fan will notice that a few of their own are making quite a splash in this year’s free agency.

Carlos Boozer, a former Duke All-American who recently reunited with head coach Mike Krzyzewski during the Beijing Olympics, is finally a free agent after spending the past six years with the Utah Jazz. One of the stronger power forwards on the market right now, Boozer is a guaranteed offensive power that can consistently put up double-double games. His strengths lay in his rebounding and shot accuracy – he has been in the top-10 field-goal percentage shooters six times in his career and in the top-10 rebounders twice.

The Jazz seem determined to keep him, but nothing is stopping him from settling with a team that can offer him more money and a greater chance for a championship run. Boozer and his agent have already met with the Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat and New Jersey Nets, as well as held exploratory talks with the New York Knicks. If he were to go to New York, Boozer would team up with recent signee Amare Stoudemaire, creating a potential partnership that would make the Knicks a genuine threat in the Eastern Conference.

UPDATE: Boozer's free-agency came to a close on Wednesday, as it was reported that the power forward agreed to a five-year contract with the Bulls for between 75 and 80 million dollars.  The deal can not be made official until Thursday.

Another Duke alum, recently-married J.J. Redick, has also been the source of speculation – if not as loud as Boozer's. Redick, who has spent his entire professional career with the Orlando Magic, is coming off his best season, averaging 9.6 points and 1.6 assists per game. He was a valuable scorer and defender in the Magic’s run to the Eastern Conference finals, where they fell to the Boston Celtics.  His recent success in the NBA has earned him the recognition and interest from the Celtics and Bulls. Orlando hopes to retain him, but it might be difficult knowing that he’s a talented enough player to have options.

Finally, Chris Duhon has reached a 4-year deal with the Orlando Magic. Duhon, originally drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 2004, was offered a deal by the Magic when he became a free agent two years ago, but deferred to the New York Knicks where he put up 9.2 points and 6.8 assists per game. Duhon will fulfill the back-up point guard position behind Jameer Nelson.
