MythBusters’ Adam Savage speech nixed

An April 7 speech by “MythBusters” co-host Adam Savage has been canceled due to a scheduling error.

The agency that Duke University Union was working with to bring Savage accidentally booked him for another appearance at the same time as the Duke one, said DUU Major Speakers Director Yi Zhang, a junior.

“We were disappointed,” Zhang said. “I mean, a lot of people were really interested in this event.”

Zhang said she does not know what other event the agency, Burns Entertainment and Sports Marketing, scheduled Savage for. She added that she does not know how the error occurred.

MythBusters is a television show that examines science-related myths and misconceptions in a humorous and often explosion-laden format.

During the event, Savage would have shown behind-the-scenes videos from MythBusters and talked about his job, Zhang said in March.

Tickets had not yet been sold for the speech, which was to be held April 7 at 8 p.m. in Griffith Theater.

The money that DUU spent to bring Savage to Duke has been refunded, Zhang said, adding that the organization is looking to bring a replacement speaker to Duke before the end of the year.
