Inside K-ville: High Morale

In the upcoming weeks—all the way up until the Duke-North Carolina game on Mar. 6—staff writer Chris Cussack will blog from inside Krzyzewskille as he lives through the tenting experience. Stay tuned for regular posts, photos and inside information covering Duke Basketball’s most famous student tradition. (Earlier posts: "Inside K-ville: Entry 1" and "Inside K-ville: Amazing Grace)

Life is good in K-ville! With an incredible win last night and sun, sun and more sun in the forecast, morale is high. The last few days have been full of rain and wind, but today we celebrate seeing this on Tyler Hansbrough’s face one last time, on the night his jersey was retired, no less. Although, maybe his disappointment was just related to the 13th place finish for which his Pacers look destined. Or maybe he saw his former Coach’s quote comparing the disaster in Haiti to UNC’s season and wishes he could come back for a 5th year of eligibility. Whatever the reason, our night (and today) just became that much better.

This jubilation is all taking place in the shantytown that is now K-ville, after about half of the 50-some tents blew down during a Tuesday night and Wednesday morning filled with heavy wind and rain. Luckily, our own 60-foot, staked-down tarp was blown completely off of our tent after the rain ceased. Others were not so lucky, and were forced to flee K-ville in the wee hours as their tents collapsed around them.

We not out of the woods yet, so to speak, but we’ll be enjoying the sun as we start lining up for Maryland this week, undoubtedly the most important home game left on the regular season schedule. (Sorry Carolina, break .500 before you ask for that honor.)

A quick final note: I’d love to start posting some interesting, quirky, ridiculous, horrifying stories on the blog. Shoot me a quick email ctc9@duke.edu if you’ve got something that fits the criteria, or drop by Tent 3.
