The time for change is now

There is a moment in the life of every generation when, if we are to make our mark on history, our spirit must break though."-Sen. Barack Obama

Our moment is now.

Every election has consequences, but in this election, in this defining moment in our country's history, the American people have a clear choice. Sen. John McCain is an honorable man who has served his country well, and he is running because he genuinely wants to change this nation for the better. However, McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin are not the change we need. We cannot solve the problems of the 21st century with a Cold War mentality and a 20th-century approach to politics. We live in a complicated world with complicated problems, and we need new leadership for a changing world. In an era of globalization and increasing connectivity, we need a president who transcends division. Obama will heal the divisions of the last eight years at home and abroad and be a president that Americans can be proud of again.

Obama is an unlikely candidate for the presidency, yet he is the epitome of the American dream. His father came to America for an education, his mother raised him to have hope in the unlimited possibilities of America and his grandparents impressed upon him the American creed that through hard work one can write one's own destiny.

The task ahead is a daunting one. We find ourselves in a moment of crisis. The American dream seems to be slipping out of reach for more and more Americans.

Obama cannot solve our nation's problems alone. Our nation needs a team for change. Together with a Democratic Congress, an Obama-Biden Administration will have the ability to deliver the change our country so desperately needs. Republicans are currently promising to block Obama's agenda and keep our nation from moving forward. Unified government is not the problem; the problem is a Republican unified government. For six years, the Republicans had their chance. They controlled both houses of the Congress and the White House and in that time they have squandered our nation's resources and damaged our reputation. If you genuinely want this country to move in a positive direction, then cast your ballot today for Obama and Sen. Joe Biden and then for Kay Hagan, Bev Perdue, David Price and the rest of the North Carolina Democratic ticket for change.
