After Close Win, Duke Drops In Poll

Duke needed all 40 minutes—and six clutch free throws—to beat Rhode Island Sunday in Cameron Indoor Stadium. And a close home win over an unranked team so early in the season never bodes well for pollsters.

The Blue Devils dropped from No. 8 to No. 10 in the AP poll this week while staying put in the ESPN/USA Today poll.

Despite a 64-59 win over Miami (Ohio), UCLA, which Duke could meet in the finals of the 2K Sports Classic Friday, stayed put at No. 4. North Carolina remained a unanimous No. 1 in the AP poll while it lost one vote in the ESPN/USA Today poll. Also of note: Rhode Island received five votes in the AP for its valiant effort against the Blue Devils.
