Student attempts suicide

A resident of Aycock Dormitory attempted to commit suicide Wednesday night, Duke University Police Department Maj. Gloria Graham confirmed.

The student was taken to a hospital after the incident and had returned to campus Thursday.

Duke Emergency Medical Services was dispatched to provide services when the incident occurred around midnight, and Duke police were also on scene, students on the individual's hall said. The student had attempted to slit his wrists, and EMS helped him in the hall's bathroom, sources said.

A formal hall meeting was not called after the incident, students on the hall confirmed.

Dean of Students Sue Wasiolek declined to comment on the situation.
