In scoreless tie, Powers saves Duke

On a cold night in Charlottesville, Va., the No. 11 Blue Devils struggled to get their offense firing, but managed to hold onto a scoreless tie thanks to a career performance from goalkeeper Cassidy Powers.

Powers' career-high 10 saves kept the No. 8 Cavaliers off the scoreboard, earning Duke a 0-0 draw at Klockner Stadium Thursday.

The Blue Devils (12-3-3, 4-2-3 in the ACC) had hammered Clemson 6-0 in their last outing, but this match was controlled by the Cavaliers. Virginia (12-3-2, 6-2-1) outshot Duke 22-6, and Duke only forced two saves from the opposing keeper. Cavalier midfielder Sinead Farrelly struck the post in the 59th minute for her team's best chance of the day.

The Blue Devils complete their road trip through the state of Virginia Sunday, when they take on Virginia Tech at 2 p.m.
