Blue Devils fall in 2 dual meets

The Blue Devils returned to Lake Monticello in Charlottesville, Va. this weekend to compete in two dual regattas against Central Florida and No. 20 Michigan State.

Duke battled against the Golden Knights Saturday morning in four races-the varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and the novice eight.

The Blue Devils were unable to pull away from Central Florida in any of the races, but came the closest in the varsity four and eight, which they lost by less than five seconds each. In those two races, Duke clocked times of 7:48.5 and 6:41.9, respectively.

In the afternoon, Duke took to the water again to face the Spartans in four races.

Although the Blue Devils could not best Michigan State in any of the events, the varsity eight squad again gave its opponent a scare, coming in with a time of 6:33.1-just three seconds behind the Spartans squad.

The Duke second varsity eight boat finished in a time of 6:56.56, trailing Michigan State by over 15 seconds.

Duke next heads to Clemson, S.C. for the ACC Championships, when the boats hit the water April 21.
