Life's been tough for the head man in the Athletic Department/boating afficionado. First, there was that whole baseball/steroid/Bill Hillier scandal. Then, the lacrosse rape imbroglio turned Duke's athletic program into the poster child for underage-drinking, stripper-hiring athletes all over the nation-and made Alleva look even worse.
And then his son J.D. wrecked the Alleva family boat with Joe riding along. But wait-it gets worse. The gash Joe suffered when the boat crashed took 42 stitches to close, and J.D. later got charged with DWI. The University's only official response to the boating incident was to say they were happy that no one was seriously injured. But damn, Joe's sure been having a bad couple of... years.
