From the Editor

Dear readers:

This year marks the 100th year of The Chronicle's publication. Since the first issue was published in 1905, we have grown from a fledgling weekly to an independent daily newspaper with a staff of nearly 100 student volunteers and an annual budget of $1.3 million. Needless to say, it's time to celebrate.

Over the course of the year we will commemorate this special anniversary in a number of ways, both in our daily pages and with the help of the larger community. Each week we will run a feature looking back through The Chronicle's archives, reflecting upon the issues that have shaped campus debate since the beginning of the century. In October, hundreds of Chronicle alumni will return to campus for a special reunion and celebration weekend complete with panel discussions, networking opportunities for current undergraduates and a gala birthday party. And over the course of the year, we'll be continuing to mark our anniversary with special features in every section of the newspaper.

But as special as this occasion is, we cannot forget our primary responsibility: to provide news and information about the Duke community and provide a medium for campus dialogue. We've been tweaking our design and rethinking our coverage in order to provide you the most comprehensive coverage possible. Even further, we want to take this opportunity to establish a new relationship with our readership. So let us know what you think. Tell us what you like, what you wish we'd cover and what you want to see more of. Thanks for reading--I hope you're looking forward to this year as much as we are.
