Waiting-room bandit makes of with bank card

A visitor reported the theft of a bank card from her purse in a waiting room at Duke Hospital Dec. 4. The visitor said that at 9:15 a.m. she was visiting a patient when she realized she left her purse in the waiting room. She returned to the waiting room and saw a man holding her purse. The man left the room as she was checking the contents of the purse. The visitor reported that the only thing missing was a bank debit card. The man is described as a black male around 5'10", 130-140 lbs., thin build, between 20 and 30 years old, wearing a dark blue jacket and blue jeans. 

   

Bryan Center theft leaves student without jacket

A student reported Dec. 6 the theft of her $150 black leather jacket from the Bryan Center. The student said she left the jacket unattended in the basement of the Bryan Center between 8:45 and 9 p.m. Dec. 2.

 

   

Purse goes AWOL between Blue Zone and dorm

A student reported the theft of her black leather purse from the Blue Zone parking lot area Dec. 8. The student said she knew she had her purse with her when she parked her vehicle in the lot at 1:30 a.m. Dec. 8. The student was transported from the parking lot to her West Campus dorm by a Safe Rides van. When she reached her room she noticed that her purse was missing. The missing purse and contents are valued at $70. 

   

Visitor says cash stolen, records say otherswise

A visitor reported Dec. 8 the theft of $362 in cash from his personal belongings. The visitor reported that he was admitted to the hospital Nov. 26 with $1170 in cash in his possession. His belongings were kept in the business office safe for safekeeping. When he was discharged at 3:46 p.m. Dec. 8 there was only $808 in his belongings bag. The business office documentation shows only the $808 present in the bag when it was checked in. 

   

Wallet pinched from lab coat

An employee reported the theft of a wallet from a lab coat in Duke Hospital Dec. 23. The employee said she knew the wallet was in the lab coat at 2 p.m. Dec. 23. The wallet was missing from the coat at 3:30 p.m. The wallet and contents are valued at $50. 

   

Mountain bike takes a hike

A student reported Dec. 10 the theft of his $160 red mountain bike from the bike rack between Giles Dorm and Lilly Library. The student said he locked his bike to the rack with a cable lock Nov. 1 and noticed his bike missing at 1:40 p.m. Dec. 10. 

   

Employee finds car minus license plate

An employee reported Dec. 11 the theft of a $25 license plate from her 1991 Volvo. The employee said she parked her car in the parking lot at Erwin Rd. and LaSalle St. at 9 a.m. Dec. 5. When she returned to her vehicle at noon Dec. 9 the license plate was missing. 

   

Diamond ring snatched from House K restroom

A student reported Dec. 12 the theft of a $160 ring from the women's restroom in House K. The student said she left the ring on a counter at 8:15 a.m. Dec. 9. When she went to retrieve the ring around 8 p.m. the ring was missing. The ring is described as a white gold heart ring with diamond. 

   

Six hand-held radios filched from storage room

An employee reported Dec. 19 the theft of six Motorola MTS 2000 hand-held radios from a Duke office on Mayfair St. The employee said the radios were last seen in a locked storage room at noon Oct. 15. The radios were discovered missing at 9 a.m. Dec. 15. The missing radios are valued at $2000. 

   

Locker room larceny yields two coats

An employee reported Dec. 19 the theft of two coats from the women's locker room in the Eye Center. The employee said she left a $20 blue and gray Bugle Boy coat and a $50 white lab coat in the locker room at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 18. The two coats were discovered missing at 8 a.m. Oct. 21. 

   

Visitor discovers cash envelope sans money

A visitor reported Dec. 19 the theft of $600 in cash from a patient room in Duke Hospital. The visitor reported that she had the money in an envelope in the room at 11 p.m. Dec. 18. The money was missing when she checked the envelope at 8:40 a.m. Dec. 19. The visitor was in and out of the room during that time. 

   

Flat-screen monitors hot commodities

An employee reported Dec. 3 the theft of a $700 Dell 17" flat screen computer monitor from the Law School Library. The monitor was taken sometime between 3 p.m. Dec. 2 and 12:10 a.m. Dec. 3. A steel cable securing the monitor to the desk was cut in the theft.

An employee reported the theft of a $400 Dell flat panel computer monitor from the Duke Clinics building. The employee said the monitor was in a storage room and was last seen Nov. 24. The employee noticed that the monitor was missing at 9 a.m. Jan. 5. 

   

Cars undamaged, but possessions pilfered

A student reported Dec. 3 a break-in to her vehicle parked at the rear of Gilbert-Addoms dorm. The student parked her vehicle at 1 p.m. Dec. 1 and returned at 5 p.m. When she returned she found that someone had entered her 2000 Jeep and taken her $100 parking permit. There was no damage to her vehicle.

An employee reported Dec. 18 a break-in to her 1996 Honda Accord in the Hillsborough Road lot near Ninth Street. The employee said she parked her vehicle in the lot at 8 a.m. Dec. 17. When she returned to the lot at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 17 she found that her $150 stereo receiver and $60 Nokia cell phone and charger were gone. There was no sign of forced entry to the vehicle. 

   

Damage to vehicles irks student, employees, visitor

A student reported Dec. 3 that his vehicle was damaged while parked in the Blue Zone parking lot. The student parked his vehicle in the lot at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 and found the damage at noon Nov. 25. The damage to his 1995 Honda Accord consisted of dents on the hood that could be consistent with someone jumping on the car. The damage is valued at $800.

An employee reported that the rear window of his 1994 Pontiac Bonneville was broken while the vehicle was parked in Parking Garage II Dec. 26. The employee said he parked his car in the garage at 8 p.m. Dec. 26 and found the damage at 10:15 p.m. the same day. There was nothing reported taken from the vehicle. The damage to the rear window is valued at $250.

An employee reported Jan. 2 a break-in to his 1992 Dodge parked in the Brown Dorm parking lot. The employee said he left his locked vehicle in the lot at 8 p.m. Jan. 1. When he checked his car at 5:20 p.m. Jan. 2 he found the door open and the ignition damaged. There was no sign of forced entry to the vehicle. Damage to the ignition is valued at $250.

On Dec. 27 a visitor reported that someone scratched his 1980 Jeep while he was parked at Duke Forest gate 23 off Mt. Sinai Road. The visitor said that his Jeep was scratched with a blunt object while he was walking in the forest around 11 a.m. on Dec. 27. The damage to the vehicle is valued at $250. 

   

Car break-in leaves employee without radar detector

An employee reported a break-in to her 2000 Mitsubishi in the H parking lot at Anderson Street Dec. 18. The employee said she parked her vehicle in the lot at 5:45 a.m. Dec. 18. When she returned to her vehicle at 6:12 p.m. Dec. 18 she found that the front window had been broken and a $150 radar detector had been stolen. The damage to the vehicle is valued at $200. 

   

Cash taken from women in Duke Hospital

A visitor reported the theft of $50 in cash from her pocketbook in Duke Hospital Dec. 8. The visitor said she left her pocketbook in her room at 11:15 a.m. Dec. 8 when she left the room for treatment. The money was missing when she checked her pocketbook at 8 p.m.

An employee reported the theft of $15 in cash from her backpack, located in a break room in Duke Hospital, Dec. 18. The employee said she left her backpack on a chair in the break room at 7 a.m. Dec. 18 and the money was missing when she checked her backpack at 9 a.m. 

   

Student's wallet goes missing during McDonald's meal

A student reported the theft of her wallet from the Bryan Center Dec. 9. The student said she had the wallet with her when she sat down near McDonald's at 11:30 p.m. When she got up at 11:40 p.m. the wallet was gone. The wallet contained her dorm keys, $30 in cash and various ID cards. The wallet and contents are valued at $210. 

   

Items abducted from unlocked locker

A visitor reported the theft of a $75 Ann Taylor watch and a $300 Motorola cellular phone from an unlocked locker in the Duke Hospital Dec. 22. The visitor reported that she placed her belongings in the locker at 7:45 p.m. Dec. 22 prior to visiting a patient. When she returned to the locker at 8:49 p.m. her belongings were missing.
