Frosh triumvirate falls at Rivieras

Three Duke freshmen competed in the women's prequalifying singles draw this weekend at the Riviera All-American in Pacific Palisades, Calif., but none advanced to Tuesday's qualifying rounds.

"I'm disappointed with the results, but not so much with how we hit the ball," head coach Jamie Ashworth said. "They were actually striking the ball better than they did last weekend."

The most successful Blue Devil was Jennifer Zika, who won two matches Saturday against Southern California's Judy DeVera and 99th-ranked Kendall Cline of UNC before falling in the final prequalifying round Sunday.

Duke's two other players--Tory Zawacki and Kristin Cargill--each lost in the first round.

"You're not going to get any easy matches here, but they were matches that we still should have won," Ashworth said.
