Letter: President voices support for Durham CROP Walk

I want to commend those Duke students, faculty and staff who plan to participate in the 2003 Durham CROP Walk on April 6, and I encourage others to consider joining.

The Durham CROP Walk, which will start at the steps of Duke Chapel at 2:30 p.m., offers a concrete way to help fight hunger in Durham and abroad. Last year, more than 4,200 walkers made ours the second largest CROP Walk in the nation. Volunteers raised a record $182,000, three-quarters of which was distributed by Church World Service to refugees and disaster victims in 80 countries. The rest remained right here in Durham, helping local families in need through organizations such as Durham Congregations in Action.

The goal this year is $200,000. Please support this effort to join with the Duke and Durham communities to help the increasing numbers of people in crisis. For more information, call 416-3366.
