Couldn't you take the elevator?

The large crane that consumed the Chapel Quadrangle Tuesday removed the old elevator from the tower, part of an ongoing renovation of the lift. Since January several companies have been working to repair the aging elevator, which in recent years has been used mainly by the carillonneur. The project is expected to be completed in August.

The new elevator will not translate to visitor access, however. Sandra McNutt, director of development and administration for the Chapel, cited an order by the state insurance commissioner declaring the tower too dangerous.

Elevator use will be limited to special occasions and business. Until the new elevator is installed, the the carillonneur will have to climb the 240 winding steps.
