Brand, Langdon split team MVP honors

Elton Brand swept all of the major national player of the year honors this season, but the team award he had to share.

Brand and Trajan Langdon split team MVP honors for the Blue Devils at Friday night's "Tradition of Excellence" show in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The event drew 3,500 people and commemorated the team's 93-year history.

Langdon also received the Captains' award. Shane Battier and Chris Carrawell were named the best defensive players, Will Avery won the Iron Duke Award for most minutes played and Battier received the True Blue Award for most charges taken and the Deryl Hart Award as the top scholar-athlete.

Carrawell was also given the Coach's Award, while Nate James won the Glenn E. Mann Award as the reserve contributing most to team morale.

At the end of the evening, James, Carrawell and Battier were named tri-captains for the 1999-2000 season. Ironically, the three are the only players from last year's rotation who will definitely be back in the fall.

Langdon, Taymon Domzalski and Justin Caldbeck were also recognized with a video salute and gave their own speeches as Duke's three graduating seniors.
