Granville suspended indefinitely from team

Trinity junior and inside linebacker Billy Granville was suspended from the Duke football team Wednesday for disciplinary reasons, according to several members of the team.

He will not play against North Carolina State Saturday, and the length of his suspension has not yet been determined by head coach Fred Goldsmith.

One player said that Goldsmith was yelling at Granville on the field and told him at that time that he was suspended from the team. Goldsmith called members of the team together after practice Wednesday and told them that the problem was between the coaching staff and Granville.

"[Goldsmith] talked about [how] it's a very unfortunate incident," said Trinity sophomore and free safety Jason Kasarda. "He said it all comes down to discipline of the team."

Trinity freshman free safety Eric Jones also said that although he thought the suspension was "unfortunate," Goldsmith did what he felt was necessary.

Granville, a 6-foot-3, 235-pound junior from Lawrenceville, NJ, is ranked second in total team tackles this season. Granville was given second team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors for his performance last season, leading the team in tackles with 115.
