Men's hoops opens with Northeastern

For most students, Thanksgiving means a chance to get away from school and relax at home.

The men's basketball team will be at home--but the last thing it will be doing during break is relaxing.

The No. 4 Blue Devils finish their preseason schedule tomorrow night against the Australian National Team at 7:30 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Aussies (4-1) have lost just to Virginia in their tour of the States, but have victories over the likes of N.C. State and UCLA.

The key member of the Australian team is Andrew Gaze, who led the 1989 Seton Hall team that defeated Duke in the Final Four.

Duke officially begins the season on Saturday with its game against Northeastern in Cameron at 7:30 p.m. The Blue Devils beat the Huskies at home last season, 103-72.

Northeastern hails from the relatively unknown North Atlantic Conference, where it was a respectable 20-8 last season.

Northeastern's basketball program gained prominence in the mid-'80s with the all-world play of the late Boston Celtic Reggie Lewis.
