DNC Chair Tom Perez talks voter mobilization, calls Trump strategy 'mean-spirited'

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez visited Duke Monday to give the Terry Sanford Distinguished Lecture, “Civil Rights and the People’s Party.” The Chronicle's Sam Turken spoke with him about the addition of a citizenship question to the 2020 census, unity within the Democratic Party and efforts by the Republican Party to retain seats in the House of Representatives during this year’s midterm elections. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) visited campus Monday to give the 2018 Crown Lecture in Ethics entitled “Politics and Our Potential: Can Congress Rise to Meet Its Obligation to Govern?” Snowe has long advocated for reaching across the aisle in order to effectively govern. Obama's Intelligence Director James Clapper discusses the threat of Russia, cyber security

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper spoke on campus Monday for the event "Cyber Security: America's Greatest Threat?" Clapper served as the director of national intelligence from 2010 to 2017 under President Barack Obama and was responsible for overseeing CIA, NSA and FBI operations. Currently on the advisory board of the non-profit organization Committee to Investigate Russia, Clapper also has a book, "Facts and Fears: Hard Truths from a Life in Intelligence. Hard Truths from a Life in Intelligence," set to be released in May. The Chronicle’s Jamie Cohen sat down with Clapper to discuss national security and intelligence issues, as well as his thoughts on the game Saturday.
