Duke College Republicans Endorse Tara Bansal for DSG President, Ilana Weisman for EVP

The Duke College Republicans are endorsing Tara Bansal for DSG President and Ilana Weisman for DSG Executive Vice President. Though neither candidate aligns with DCR ideologically, we believe Tara and Ilana are best suited for the tasks that await them, building genuine political dialogue on campus during an election year and restoring faith in DSG.

The decision for the presidential endorsement was difficult, as we were impressed with the proposals of all of the candidates. We wholeheartedly agreed with John Guarco’s stance on freedom of expression on campus and fixing the appeals process for student conduct, and Annie Adair’s ideas for reforming and opening up DSG were pragmatic and refreshing. Nonetheless, we believe Tara is best equipped for the job. Tara’s commitment to promoting political dialogue between both sides on the aisle on campus has been tried and true. This can be seen through her creation of the Battle of the Brains series and the new Living Learning Community. Tara’s promise to make sure that all political beliefs – both left and right – would be included in the new academic program she is proposing was also a large bonus.

For the EVP position, Ilana’s extensive experience in DSG and knowledge of the organization’s inner workings, as well as her tenacious enthusiasm, make her an ideal candidate for EVP.
