Blue Devils United endorses Bansal, Weisman, Geng

After meeting with all of the candidates running for President and Executive Vice President of Duke Student Government and for the Student Organization Funding Committee Chair, Blue Devils United has democratically voted to make the following endorsements:

BDU will endorse Tara Bansal for the role of DSG President. We found that her work on promoting cultural competency with “Duke 101” as well as her commitment to community outreach and understanding intersectional identities best represented BDU’s goals and interests.

Ilana Weisman has earned our support to be DSG’s Executive Vice President. Her advocacy for all-gender bathrooms, the addition of inclusive pronouns to school policy, and sexual health resources, makes us confident that she will continue to keep intersectional diversity in mind should she lead DSG’s Senate next year. We encourage all student leaders that consider themselves allies to aspire to what Ilana has done for our campus.

Finally, BDU will endorse Gwen Geng’s campaign for SOFC Chair. We are confident that her analytical mindset will serve our campus well. We also appreciate her commitment to ensuring that SOFC events are open and inviting to all in the LGBTQ+ community. If she is elected, we look forward to collaborating with her during the 2016-2017 school year.

Blue Devils United would like to thank all seven candidates for meeting with us and for taking the time to think about the needs and experiences of Duke’s LGBTQ+ communities.

Be United.
