Lightning hits Central Campus

Special to The Chronicle

Students living in 312 Anderson St reported lightning striking Sunday night.  Internet in the building was down as of 11:58 pm.

“I was just sitting inside and suddenly a really loud sound, and I don’t know—I jumped,” said sophomore Cefi Menda, a resident of the building. “I’ve never heard thunder so loud.”

After feeling the quake and hearing the sound, Menda ventured outside to investigate whether a fire had ignited to discover lightning had not struck the building itself, just in front of it.

Menda noted that the lack of Internet hindered his ability to work on his homework and that a number of his neighbors were having trouble accessing their class schedules online. He said the Office of Information Technology had been contacted and that he was under the impression the Internet would be back up within two hours.

At approximately 7:30 pm, sophomore Anthony Hagouel, a resident of the building and the Health and Science co-editor for The Chronicle called resident assistant Jordan Pearson to report the incident.

Dean for Residential Life Joe Gonzalez said he had not heard of the incident and had no information on it.
