Alexandra Pelosi is a producer for NBC television. During the 2000 election, she followed then-Gov. George W. Bush for the news network. After the official cameras stopped rolling, Pelosi broke-out her hand-held and conducted a series of casual interviews with the candidate. Journeys with George was the result of that endeavor.

From our politicians, there is no real commitment to solving America's problem with race.

Four months after his wife died, two months after he returned to the home where her ghost lingers and many months before his trial for her death will begin, Michael Peterson finds himself paradoxically struggling to both move on and hold on.

custom that has thankfully collapsed under the weight of common sense and basic feminism--the arranged marriage--is the subject of Monsoon Wedding, an Indian comedy that combines elements of both American and Indian films. The result is a bit topsy-turvy--let's just say Bollywood and Hollywood shouldn't be mixed in such uneven proportions.

Based on the video game of the same name, Resident Evil explores a dynamic, futuristic world where a bio-tech and weaponry firm called the Umbrella Corporation... blah blah f--king blah, who am I kidding? It's a movie based on a f--king video game.

Thanks to NCAA basketball, most Duke students are able to avoid the other embarrassing media-hype spectacle that takes place every late March--the Academy Awards. Our predictions for Sunday's winners:

One of the first things I heard after Sept. 11 was that the terrorist attacks on our nation were going to be our generation's Pearl Harbor. Six months later, after some thoughtfulness and observation of how our government has reacted, it is clear that nothing could be further from the truth.

In the 19th century, Prince Otto von Bismarck addressed the House of Commons and foreshadowed, "If there ever is another war in Europe, it will come out of some damned silly thing in the Balkans." Although often referenced in regards to World War I, the quote resonates with No Man's Land, a dark comedy about the Bosnian-Serbian war of the 1990s.

Fresh mountain air. Woodland trails on the faces of steep gorges. Roaring whitewater rapids. A dozen varieties of poisonous snake. The unofficial moonshine capital of the world. I spent my spring break in Beckley, West Virginia.

Ultimately about self-realization and overcoming loss, Monster's Ball is an intricate and hauntingly realistic motion picture which develops a simple story of love into a quiet epic that transcends the film's small-town Georgia setting.

It looks like Canada is not the only English-speaking country that has picked up on the worst parts of American culture. Australian filmmaker Ray Lawrence has offered us Lantana, a near duplicate of Magnolia--impressive ensemble cast, overwrought script, slow pacing and a title that references foliage.

The Academy for Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 74th Annual Academy Awards Tuesday. As expected, A Beautiful Mind, The Lord of the Rings and Moulin Rouge received best picture nominations along with acting nominations for respective stars Russell Crowe, Ian McKellan and Nicole Kidman. At least the other two nominees were a bit more surprising (Gosford Park and In the Bedroom).

BOSTON -- Fox tried its hardest to make this year's Super Bowl a celebration of American patriotism. They redid the Super Bowl logo from a Bourbon Street inspired bourbon-colored logo, to a graphic of the continuous states in red, white and blue. America's biggest sporting event was refigured to celebrate our nation, praise our heroes, make millions of dollars and give us a decent game.

Just seeing it can scare a film aficionado to death. Not the blurry, gray creature of The Mothman Prophecies but the phrase "based on a true story." To film buffs, the term is indicative of a half-baked premise trying desperately to obtain social relevance. Mothman fulfills this prophecy.

After ARAMARK sacked Radzwiller and her new-fangled menu (Maggie, I had the double-thick pork chop, the vegetarian quesadilla with a nice Merlot; you can cook at my apartment anytime), the dining institution that is the Oak Room became a little more institutionalized.

ost Americans observe war through a collection of cloudy lenses--limited media coverage, nationalism and personal experiences skew the portrayal of the frontline. This is especially true of battles tinged by politics. Based on a book by the same name, Black Hawk Down attempts to clarify an infamous 1993 raid in Mogadishu, Somalia--a mission that was deemed a total failure by American politicians and media for all the wrong reasons.

The Sept. 11 attacks spawned a mess of urban legends from the hopeful (a man was able to sail on a piece of wreckage to a safe landing on the ground) to the harrowing (a tourist had his picture taken on the observation deck as one plane was about to crash). Most of these legends are like other urban legends--speculative, designed to inject sensationalism.

Orange County, a comedy about a young man whose college plans are thwarted, has an impressive pedigree--the offspring of director Lawrence Kasdan (Jake), Tom Hanks (Colin) and Sissy Spacek (Schuyler Fisk)--but is little more than an exercise in childish indulgence.
