Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe is known for starting press conferences off on a lighthearted note. Today's media luncheon was no exception.
Just 14 of the 120 schools in the Football Bowl Subdivision made money from their athletic departments in the 2009 fiscal year, a 44 percent decline from the previous year, according to an August 17 NCAA report. Duke is not among the 14, said Chris Kennedy, deputy director of athletics.

Get your DVRs set football fans: the highly anticipated matchup of Duke versus defending national champion Alabama now officially has been set for Sept. 18 at 3:30 p.m. ABC will regionally televise the game. The announcement was part of an ACC press release which gave details for the first three weeks of the football season. In addition to Duke-Alabama game, 18 other ACC games will be televised in the early season, including 10 which will see the national TV spotlight.
College basketball fans got an early Christmas present today when Duke's senior associate athletic director, Mike Cragg, confirmed to The Chronicle that Butler and Duke will, in fact, square off in a much-anticipated rematch of the 2010 NCAA Tournament Championship game. The game will take place Saturday, Dec. 4 at 3:30 pm at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J., and it will be broadcast by ESPN.

Residence Life and Housing Services (RHLS) has made it abundantly clear to all students studying abroad that they should have zero expectations for their living accommodations when they return. But at the same time, RLHS is doing its best to limit student's options by forcing everyone to wait on trying to find an off-campus apartment (per the July 28th email) but then decided once we were abroad that, actually, they would prefer us find somewhere off campus. Thanks for that, RLHS.
With the end of the semester and final exams looming on the horizon, the thoughts of the majority of students have turned to Myrtle Beach and bolting from Durham as soon as possible.
