Trio of Seniors Named Football Captains

Generic Script

In a break with protocol, the Blue Devils decided this year to elect three permanent captains. Redshirt seniors Abraham Kromah, Chris Rwabukamba and senior Bryan Morgan were selected by their teammates to represent Duke week in and week out.

The coaching staff backed the decision and will also name a fourth game captain each week. Redshirt senior Brett Huffman will the game captain for the upcoming contest against Elon.

"I'm very appreciative of those young men," Cutcliffe said yesterday. "They have invested a lot in what we're doing, going into their third year with us, and they certainly at this point have exemplified on and off the field what we expect a Duke football player to be, so I'm very proud of them."

Kromah is the starting middle linebacker for this year's team. He solidified his starting spot in spring practice, where he posted the fourth-best bench press (415 lbs.) and power clean lift (318 lbs.) in Duke's post-spring drills testing. Last year he missed five games with a leg injury and drew four starting assignments in the seven games he played. He also finished the year with 40 tackles.

Rwabukamba, a starting cornerback, is the most experienced defensive back on the squad with 34 games and under his belt. He drew starting assignments in the final 10 games of last season, and registered his first career sack against Miami.  He finished the year with 46 tackles. Rwabukamba was also a fourth round selection (27th overall pick) of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 2010 Canadian Football League Draft.

Morgan, the youngest and only offensive player of the three permanent captains, was named to Rimington Trophy Spring Watch List, an award given annually to college football's top center. Morgan is a three-year starter who anchored the Blue Devil offensive line unit that ranked third in the ACC in sacks allowed per pass attempt. Like Kromah, Morgan put up impressive numbers this spring in the gym, ranking second in the power clean lift (324 lbs.).
