Following an impressive 21-7 road victory over Northwestern, there was plenty of reason to be optimistic about Duke’s season outlook. However, the Blue Devils lost two of their key pieces to injury in quarterback Daniel Jones and cornerback Mark Gilbert.

In the last decade, Baylor has been among the most successful programs in college football—at least on the field. The Bears finished in the top 15 in the AP poll in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015, and reached as high as No. 8 as 2016.

In Duke’s 41-17 domination of Northwestern in 2017, a suffocating performance from the defense led the Blue Devils. The Wildcats amassed just 66 yards on the ground, as former star running back Justin Jackson, who finished as Northwestern’s all-time leading rusher, and current starter Jeremy Larkin both struggled to find any holes to run through.

Duke came out guns ablazing in 2018, dismantling NC Central, Northwestern, Baylor and North Carolina en route to being just 13 votes outside of the AP Top 25 poll. Unfortunately for the Blue Devils, disaster struck—the team lost their next six games before rebounding to win their final three contests, including a victory over Northern Illinois in the Quick Lane Bowl to cap the season.
