On June 14, the Blue Devils introduced Chris Pollard as their new baseball coach, replacing Sean McNally after his resignation on May 30. Pollard, had previously been the head coach at Appalachian State since 2004 and had registered six consecutive 30-win seasons before accepting the position with Duke. The Chronicle’s Danny Nolan had the opportunity to speak to Pollard about his transition to Durham and what he has been doing since he was hired.

For seven innings, Duke and Campbell were locked up in a pitchers’ duel. Two innings and 11 total runs later, the Blue Devils escaped shaky pitching in the bottom of the ninth to secure a 9-7 victory.

With the brackets finalized last Sunday, the NCAA tournament field is set, and people across the nation are laboring over their brackets to find the optimal selections. Several experts have said Duke is a favorite to be upset early this season, due to their defensive numbers and injury questions. Head coach Mike Krzyzewski, however, stressed that the team’s recent performances must be accounted for more than the seasonal statistics.
