Michael Jordan has been known to wear a pair of old Carolina practice shorts under his Bulls uniform for a measure of good luck. Behind some clutch hitting and a solid effort from pitchers Stephen Cowie and Chris Capuano, the baseball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. In a 8-2 victory over UNC-Wilmington (4-8) yesterday at historic Jack Coombs Field, the Blue Devils improved to 18-1 on the year.

Chances are, if you have seen any highlights of North Carolina on TV this year, you have seen Vince Carter more than any other Tar Heel. Though Antawn Jamison is clearly the go-to guy on the team and Shammond Williams is a better three-point shooter, Carter is undoubtedly the most athletic player on the squad and one of the best in the nation at what he does.

Ask Clemson's Greg Buckner about his personal achievements and he shies away from the topic as if it were some sort of infectious disease. Talk to him about the tremendous success he's had in nearly four years at Clemson and you can almost feel him squirming at the question. Mention his individual accomplishments and he'll quickly give credit to his teammates and coach Rick Barnes.

At the last football press conference of the year Monday, coach Fred Goldsmith talked briefly of the team's 41-38 loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday and praised his players for what he termed an almost miraculous comeback. The coach mentioned the strength of character his team showed by rallying from a late 38-11 deficit to score four touchdowns in the fourth quarter, before eventually falling 41-38.
