Sophomore Price Davidson, a Duke Student Government Senator, made an appearance on this past weekend's episode of Army Wives. In this very special episode of the Lifetime drama, we learn about life at the Charleston fort during World War 2 and get a special message about racism. Oh, and what's Davidson's role? Western Union Messenger. In his dramatic turn, Davidson rings the death knell, announcing a fallen soldier and inciting the birth of a Greatest Generation version of a wife.

John Darnielle has never been easy to read. But his latest album, The Life of the World to Come, is a bit surprising. In my superficial early listenings to the album (not the leaked version, but the real version), it sounds like a Mountain Goats album--which is certainly a good thing. All 12 tracks are Bible verses. That is, they are the passage citations of Bible verses. In light of this recent interview (sample quote, "One way you can get really close to God is to sin as hard as you can."), I decided to investigate what each verse said, turning to the King James edition (bible.com version--who doesn't love the Internet? ) of the good book for answers.

Midtown Dickens celebrated the release of their second LP, Lanterns, Friday at the Duke Coffeehouse. The band--augmented by a quartet of horns and Megafaun's Brad and Phil Cook--spent the time between songs thanking all their friends and those who enabled the album--it was like a bearable Oscars acceptance speech with great metaphors about babies. But a grateful Midtown Dickens was matched by an audience even more grateful for the energetic, joyful performance. Check out the three videos below of Midtown Dickens performing some of the tracks from Lanterns. (And if you are wondering about the head that occasionally pops on screen--that's Kym Registers mom standing front row-center.)
