Thanksgiving's right around the corner, which means just one thing for you right now. I'm going to write a column about things in Duke sports that I'm thankful for, and you're going to read it (if only because you're sitting in the airport and your flight is delayed by six hours, and you really don't want to walk over to the book store to shell out $12 for the new Mitch Albom book, which you definitely would buy except you're totally broke and it's a good thing that you're going home so you can eat something heartier than Cup O' Noodles).

The Duke-UNC rivalry has reared its head in the most unlikely of places-the Robertson Scholarship Program.

Last year, I organized and captained a tent full of Robertson Scholars-one from Duke, 11 from Carolina. I was one of the 19 who pulled off Duke apparel to reveal Carolina blue underneath and cheered for the Tar Heels amid the Cameron Crazies behind the UNC bench.

Krzyzewskiville tenters will be packing up early this year, and the University groundskeepers can plan on having that patch of grass in front of Cameron Indoor Stadium up to touring standards earlier than usual.

So far this year, Duke sports have yanked me around better than a $5 hooker. The highs and lows have been unbearable. At the moment, we stand as the best men's soccer team in the country and the worst football team. The best moment of the year for our football team was almost beating Wake. How embarrassing is that?

Students will be able to stand in the area directly behind the press row of Cameron Indoor Stadium during men's basketball games, officials confirmed Thursday.

Basketball season starts Sunday, and it won't be long until Krzyzewskiville springs to life outside Cameron Indoor Stadium. I'm personally a big fan of K-Ville, but it's time to give it a facelift and install artificial turf to replace the natural grass that is annually destroyed in the winter.

This past weekend, Duke played host to our aquatic friends from just north: the Naval Academy. In case you didn't notice, these are the dashing young men in uniform who have more discipline in their pinkies then I have in my entire body. These are the boys you bring home to your mother with pride and-you know what?-everyone likes them. I always have the utmost respect for someone serving my country, and now that I'm actually older than many of them, my respect has only increased.

Across the vast blacktop expanse, heat emanates from the sun-soaked asphalt. Bright rays shimmer off the black, polarized lenses of moist, foggy aviator sunglasses. Screams and cackles echo from the pastel and neon crowd like an incoherent Gregorian chant.

Here's a question for every Duke fan out there: Would you trade five wins for the basketball team to get five wins for the football team in return?

MANCHESTER, Tenn. -- The biggest music festival in the country was a little different this year. And everybody knew it.

Days after President Richard Brodhead took the reins of the University, men's basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski was offered a position as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers-a series of events that would prove a portent of the news that would come to characterize a monumental 2004-2005 academic year.

I'm writing my final column at the beach in Charleston, South Carolina. I'm here with three new friends from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, none of whom I knew at the beginning of the semester. It took awhile to feel at home at UNC, but now it is hard to believe that my time studying eight miles down the road is almost over. I've met amazing people, taken some great classes and grown to love the relaxed, laid-back feeling that pervades the Chapel Hill campus.

Last fall they made tailgating end at kickoff. In February they bought 12 student-occupied houses near East Campus. Now the University proposes new rules to govern the Last Day of Classes.
