Editor's Note, 3/27

(03/27/14 8:34am)

The way we, as college students, consume television is seemingly contradictory. Never before has there been such an undeniable sense of urgency to keep up with TV shows. Spoilers will be on Twitter and Facebook within minutes—if not seconds—of an episode airing, followed closely by headlines on our favorite websites.

A Time to Explore and Grow

(03/24/14 10:44pm)

In the midst of the many debates, philosophical issues, and heated discussions that fill our daily lives at Duke, we often forget to take a moment to simply reflect on our time here. The goal of this blog is to remind us that regardless of your major, your GPA, or your opinions on the current campus hot topic, your time at Duke is made up of much more than any one of things. These four years are an experience and a journey full of great moments and some difficult ones as well. In this blog series, I hope to provide you with a few perspectives from some anonymous seniors on their time at Duke. My goal is not to convince of you any particular message or theme. What you take from this is entirely up to you.

What I really be

(03/06/14 9:42am)

In these past few weeks, Duke has taken some big steps. We elected a promising and qualified new DSG president—who also happens to be our campus’s third consecutive woman president and the second woman of color in three years. Feminist applause all around (of course, under the rules of feminism, you can clap whatever you like). On top of that, we’ve had like eight snow days. AND, on a personal note, I recently conquered K-Ville and was able to spend a whole 60 percent of a night in a tent before bailing and sleeping under a radiator in a Crowell common room.

Jabari Bars delight the tenters in K-ville

(03/04/14 12:45am)

____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>The loyal tenters out in K-ville can see the light at the end of the tunnel, with less than a week to go before Duke welcomes North Carolina to Cameron Indoor Stadium for the regular season finale. To show his appreciation for the fans who have been spending their days and nights out in the cold, freshman Jabari Parker took his talents to the kitchen, baking up some Jabari Bars for K-ville nation.

Eric Stach concludes crazy Cameron career

(02/28/14 11:22am)

Meet senior Eric Stach—the Crazy fan in the front row of every men’s basketball game for the last four years and one of the residents of the first tent for the Duke-UNC game his entire Duke career. This year, to earn their spot, Stach and his tentmates began Black Tenting Jan. 19 and placed first in a competition among black tents that used data on attendance at games and scores in a trivia contest. The Chronicle's Hailey Cunningham sat down with Stach to talk about basketball, tenting tips and the half time Harris Teeter gift card challenge.

Watch List: Last Day of Classes (LDOC)

(02/26/14 9:30am)

As the second semester progresses, there is a buildup to one of the most infamous and anticipated days of the year, the Last Day of Classes. While some buildup derives from the culmination of the school year, it’s only partly the answer. Most of the hype is attained from the LDOC concert featuring world-renowned musicians who come and provide some much needed fun for Duke students.

Could this be the beginning of a Duke-Syracuse rivalry?

(01/29/14 12:58pm)

I have been at Duke for almost a year and a half now, and it has snowed one time. I remember exactly where I was when the first flake fell last January—in The Loop eating dinner with a friend. When I walked outside, there was maybe a half-of-an-inch of snow on the ground at most, but the entire campus was a ghost town. The bus schedule was a mess, all parties that night had been cancelled already and—my most vivid memory—there was a sign adorning the six stairs leading up to the chapel announcing “STAIRS CLOSED” in big, black letters. My friend and I felt rebellious and walked up them anyway.
