Check Out Freestyle Fridays at the Mary Lou Williams Center

If you only know one thing about the Mary Lou Williams Center for Black Culture, it’s probably that it hosts live jazz every Wednesday. This year, the Mary Lou has taken that same relaxed vibe and created ‘Freestyle Fridays’- starting this semester, every Friday from 12 to 4pm the Mary Lou is hosting themed get-togethers featuring “fun, food and fellowship”.


Uni works to shrink socioeconomic divide

The Socioeconomic Diversity Initiative—a joint project launched in 2012 by the Office of the Dean and Vice-Provost of Undergraduate Education and the Office of Financial Aid—conducted a series of focus groups asking how students felt about the divide between high and low income students. In the subsequent report, students recommended changes to a number of policies including housing, dining plans and course-related fees. As a result, the University is working on changes that have so far included a new financial literacy website, a new faculty position and an updated policy on class-related expenses.



Financial aid office launches new website

The Financial Aid office contracted the development of the new site to Coalmarch Productions, a Raleigh-based web development company, which began production of the site last Spring. The site replaces a predecessor that was almost five years old and is intended to make complicated financial aid information more approachable, said Alison Rabil, assistant vice provost and director of financial aid.
