Although favored to win the Southern Conference this season, the unranked Furman University Paladins were in over their heads against the Duke men's tennis team. The seventh-ranked Blue Devils improved their spring season record to 2-0 after a 6-1 sweep of Furman (2-3) at the Chapel Hill Tennis Club on Saturday.

Although they placed a mere 14th out of 16 teams at the Sheridan Invitational, the Duke wrestlers weren't disappointed with the final standings. The tournament, held in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, this past Saturday, severely tested the Blue Devils' skills because they came up against some of the best competition in the nation, including three teams in the top 10 and 30 wrestlers ranked at the top of their respective weight classes.

Junior Marc Chatelain went above and beyond his team's expectations this weekend as he placed 15th overall at the Stanford Joe Nelson Invitational.This placement was the first top-20 finish of his men's golf career.

The winning feeling did not cease for the volleyball team after its Atlantic Coast Conference victory over Wake Forest on Tuesday. On Wednesday night Duke traveled to UNC-Greensboro (13-12, 7-4 in the Southern Conference) where they overpowered the Spartans in a clean sweep, 15-4, 15-9, 15-12.

Whoever said that freshmen need time to adjust to college hasn't met the class of 2001 Duke men's tennis players. This weekend, a quartet of Blue Devil freshmen jumped right into their collegiate debuts at the North Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill like they were veteran collegiate tennis players.

When the Division I top-20 field hockey rankings came out this past Tuesday, Duke's two weekend opponents, Temple and Old Dominion, were ranked 16th and first, respectively. Wake Forest, whom the Blue Devils defeated 2-1 on Wednesday, was 11th.
