Pauly Dogs leaves Duke

Say goodbye to the Mac Dog.

Pauly Dogs will no longer occupy the Bryan Center Plaza, said founder and owner Paul Konstanzer. Konstanzer cited personal reasons as the cause for his departure, noting that he will be moving to the Outer Banks to spend time with his mother.

He added that he tried to find someone else to run the restaurant as a franchise, but his plan did not come to fruition.

Konstanzer noted that the commission rate to Duke Dining, which increased to 15 percent, did not contribute to his decision to leave.

“My decision was based on my life,” he said.

Pauly Dogs gained recognition as one of the nation’s 32 best hot dog joints in a 2011 contest.
