The Blue Devils have their captains, and apparently, three is the magic number.

Quarterback Gunnar Holmberg, receiver Jake Bobo and defensive tackle DeWayne Carter were announced Thursday as the three captains for the upcoming season. The news comes after a team vote was held to determine the selections.

Holmberg, in his fifth year in the program, is expected to be named the starter for next Friday's season opener against Charlotte. While only having seven appearances under his belt, the North Carolina native has still shown his dual-threat potential.

Bobo is a reliable pass catcher with a career yards-per-reception average of 12.4. After leading Duke in receiving yards last year, the senior figures to be one of Holmberg's friendliest targets.

Carter has stood out to the coaching staff throughout his first normal offseason as a Blue Devil, and should be heard from often in the trenches. The redshirt sophomore, with 13 tackles in 14 games, is expected to take on a much larger role up front in the wake of recent departures.
