2019 NCAA tournament preview: Northeastern

Northeastern Huskies: 23-10, 14-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association

Head Coach: Bill Coen (13th season)

Players to watch: Vasa Pusica (17.8 PPG, 40.1 3PT%); Jordan Roland (14.7 PPG, 40.8 3PT%); Bolden Brace (10.0 PPG, 6.0 RPG)

Season Recap: The Huskies are yet another possible Cinderella aided by deadly range from beyond the arc. Star Vasa Pusica led his team to a win against Hofstra in the conference championship behind seven 3-pointers, and it’s been a similar story for Northeastern in wins against Harvard and Alabama. Head coach Bill Coen also made sure to schedule tough games, as they’ve been tested against tournament teams Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Vermont.

The Huskies rank 17th in the country in 3-point percentage, a key to any possible upset in the tournament. All 11 players on their roster average over nine minutes per game, but keep in mind that’s due to a lack of close games for Northeastern, something that could come back to hurt them in a close tournament matchup. The last two times the Huskies have made the big dance were 1991 and 2015, if those years mean anything to you.

How they make a run: Their depth comes in handy late in games, giving the Huskies one final push for a win.

How they falter: Their reliance on the three ball runs into a bad shooting night and they cannot adjust to scoring inside.
