A week after being tabbed as the almost unanimous ACC Player of the Year, junior Grayson Allen earned one of the top national preseason accolades.
The 6-foot-4 guard was one of five players named to the preseason AP All-American team Wednesday and was the top vote-getter, earning 61 votes from the 65-member panel. Allen was joined on the team by Oregon's Dillon Brooks, Villanova's Josh Hart, Iowa State's Monte Morris and California's Ivan Rabb.
A third-team All-American last year, Allen averaged 21.6 points per game last year and is the early favorite for National Player of the Year. The junior was also named to the watch list for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year award after finishing as a finalist for the award a season ago.
Allen is the only member on any of the three All-America teams from 2015-16 to return to college this season and is the only player from the ACC on this year's team.
The guard will next take the floor Friday when the Blue Devils play Augustana in their second exhibition game.
