Developing: Armed robbery reported near 301 Swift Ave. apartments Friday morning

An on-campus armed robbery involving two men armed with a handgun was reported at approximately 1:40 a.m. Friday morning.

According to a Duke News release and a DukeAlert sent to students, faculty and staff at 2:18 a.m., the two suspects demanded money from the victim near the 301 Swift Ave. apartments.

In the release, one of the gunmen is "described as a male, dark complexion, tall," and the other is described as "male, dark complexion, and shorter than the first." Both were reportedly wearing dark clothing and drove toward N.C. Highway 147 in a gold-colored car after leaving the scene.

A representative of Duke Police confirmed that the victim was not a Duke student or employee and that no injuries were reported, but said that no other details would be released Friday morning.

ABC11's Derek Rowles reported that the armed robbery might be connected to robberies reported Wednesday night on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and two other robberies in Chapel Hill.
