Developing: student reports armed robbery on Central Campus

An armed robbery was reported on Central Campus shortly after midnight Wednesday.

A student reported being approached at the corner of Anderson and Lewis Streets by a man of "medium complexion," about 6'4'' and 250 pounds, according to a Duke News release. The man held up a handgun and demanded the student's purse.

No injuries were reported.

The suspect left the scene in the passenger side of a gray or silver car, headed toward Erwin Drive. He was wearing a white sweatshirt and dark jeans and had short dark hair, according to the release.

A DukeAlert was sent to campus at 1:04 a.m. informing students, faculty and staff of the incident.

Representatives from Duke Police said that no further information would be available until Wednesday morning.

The corner of Anderson and Lewis is across the street from Food Factory and the Central Campus field.
