The Sinner, The Sitcom and The Savior

Autumn has kicked into full swing, and my grades have steadily declined as a result of ridiculous hours spent in front of a television screen. My mind is fixated on TV, and, as such, I find it important to consider the innovative, unique spectacles soon to be released. Sure, one could argue that there’s way too much TV out there already that makes it impossible to add any more shows to one’s palate, but I ignore said naysayers. There is always room for more TV. Simply drop that unnecessary Phys-Ed class or abandon your community service requirements: you have more important obligations to attend to. So today I bring you three soon-to-be modern classics in an age of way too many modern classics.

Devious Contracts

Ulrich Ultano, a peasant scarred from watching his parents endure the hardships of poverty and vulnerability, has sworn to never again suffer. The show chronicles our anti-hero’s rise from destitution to the highest ranks in his kingdom. A ruthless politician by day and treacherous drug lord by night, Ulrich will stop at nothing--whether it be war, murder, or deceit--to acquire the greatest riches the East has to offer and eventually ascend to ruler. Though it has not yet been picked up, Devious Contract is supposedly caught in a bidding war between HBO, Showtime and AMC. Look for it to come out in April of 2015.

Technological Uncertainty

Douglas, Martin and Lola are typical slackers who work at a Technology Help Center, (The THC) in Woodstock, Vermont. Doug is an average looking middle-aged man who considers himself the womanizer of the group, though he’s actually acting out because of insecurities that become clear as the show progresses. Martin is the young hotshot brainiac who is quite socially inept but, for promotion purposes, we’ll call him “quirky.” Finally, Lola is modestly more diligent than her coworkers, though her suggestions are often ignored, leading to workplace catastrophes that easily could have been avoided. Together, they form this lovable, workplace comedy about minor inconveniences in the 21st century. It is most likely to be acquired by TBS, FX, NBC or Comedy Central sometime in the near future.

Firestorm

From the producers who gave you Arrow and The Flash comes the spinoff of a spinoff that most of you probably weren’t asking for but will inevitably watch in anticipation of the future crossover TV events. Watch as Ronnie Raymond struggles to come to terms with his newfound abilities and unsurprisingly decides to become a superhero. But he’s not alone: Oother metahumans who, again unsurprisingly, decide to become supervillains challenge our protagonist at every turn. With extensive flashbacks and fast paced action sequences, this is sure to be the next hit (with potential spinoffs awaiting). Definitely bound to be snagged by the CW, but, if not, check on NBC or ABC.

*You may like this show if you’re a fan of Arrow, The Flash, Smallville, Constantine, Gotham and/or Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
