Duke women's soccer 2013 season preview

The Scoop: The Blue Devils return their top four scorers from last season’s powerhouse of an offense, but will need new faces to step up on the back line and in goal to make a deep playoff run. With injuries to midfielders Gilda Doria and Cassie Pecht—the team’s two leaders in assists last season—Duke will also have to find another playmaker to organize the offense.

Key Players: Forward Kim DeCesare—A fifth-year senior who tied for the team-lead in goals last season with 16 despite midseason injuries, DeCesare has the skill set to play anywhere on the field.

Defender Natasha Anasi—The lone holdover from Duke’s 2011 defense that paved the way for a national championship run, Anasi will have to help several young backs grow into their roles quickly.

Midfielder Kaitlyn Kerr—With teammate Gilda Doria missing the season due to injury, Kerr will have an even bigger responsibility in orchestrating Duke’s attacks.

Games to Watch: Sept. 8 vs. No. 5 UCLA, Sept. 15 vs. No. 3 Florida State, Oct. 31 at No. 1 North Carolina

Prediction: Second in ACC, National Semifinalist
